🤓SKULL PANDA OBSESSION

“Skull Panda is pure art, but the true art is the space between the viewer and figure—the obsession.” —Ryebread

Ryebread a stylist by craft, joined forces with her Ate Dana to reinterpret what Skull Panda means to her. With NoNamePH, makeup artist Lars Cabanacan and muse Chloe, they created an out-of-this-world, space-themed editorial for our COOL N.E.R.D section.

My hyperfixation began with the release of the Hypepanda series, a collection that forced me to confront the gaps in my fashion identity and evolve my personal style. Each character carried a distinct, garish personality and echoed an allegory never explicitly told—a hidden truth woven into every series. Since Skull Panda’s introduction, I’ve grown to appreciate its maximalist approach to self-expression, eventually adopting the same philosophy in my work as a fashion stylist. These tiny tchotchkes have literally taught me to seek inspiration in the smallest, strangest corners of life.

My latest acquisition was from “The Feast Begins” series at the Shanghai flagship store—a shop vibrating with energy, packed wall to wall with Skull Panda statues and figurines. Most items were already sold out. It felt like a celebration of POP MART and its reigning alt it-girl, Skull Panda herself.

Opening a blind box is its own ritual. Sharp edges unfolding into new dimensions; a cuboid revealing the interiority of a sphere. And then—an esoteric spectacle. Faced with the untethered abyss, questions arise, yet the figure somehow answers them. The idiosyncrasies of Skull Panda invite an audience that resonates with its enigma. I am most definitely part of that audience. #CoolisinSession #CoolNERD
