🏈TAKA PAPILIO
Filipinos know him as Taka Papilio—the Japanese content creator whose videos blend humor, culture, fitness, and genuine human connection. Whether he's interviewing strangers on the streets, documenting Filipino traditions, or sharing workout advice, Taka has become one of the country's most recognizable Japanese influencers.
Behind the viral content, is Takayoshi Otsuka (大塚 崇義), a Japanese national whose journey to becoming one of the Philippines' favorite creators was never part of the original plan.
He was supposed to move to Australia. Instead, the pandemic changed everything. During COVID-19, Taka met a Filipino who spoke Japanese and was invited to stay with his family. What began as a temporary arrangement became a life-changing experience.
"Living with them showed me how warm and welcoming Filipino families are," he says. "That's when the Philippines stopped feeling like just another country and started feeling like home."
Today, the Philippines is more than the backdrop of his videos. It is where he built a career, grew a community, and discovered a deeper purpose.
I’ll Make You Sweat
Aside from being an influencer, Taka is the owner of Tokyo Fitness Club in BGC and a certified personal trainer.
"The hardest part is balancing everything," he explains. "I have to manage my business, coach my clients, train myself, create content, do cardio, recover properly, and stay consistent every day."
This year, Taka is preparing for bodybuilding competitions on July 19 and July 26. After stepping off the stage, he'll begin another bulking season as he continues pursuing bigger goals in the sport.
Philippine Japan Friendship Day
Taka's content stands out because it goes beyond entertainment. His videos often celebrate everyday Filipinos, encourage cultural understanding between Japan and the Philippines, and highlight acts of kindness that resonate with viewers.
His outreach initiatives—including soup kitchens and community volunteer work—have inspired many of his followers to give back as well.
"The Filipino people have helped me so much," he says. "I wanted to return that kindness by helping others whenever I can."
Living between Japanese and Filipino cultures has given Taka a unique perspective.
"I think Japan could learn how to enjoy life more," he says. "Filipinos value family, friendships, and happiness. Japanese people work very hard, but sometimes life becomes all about work. A better work-life balance is something Japan could learn from the Philippines."
It's a perspective reflected in his own life, where career ambitions coexist with meaningful relationships and community service.
Looking Ahead
When asked about his dream collaboration, Taka doesn't mention a celebrity, television show, or major brand. Instead, he focuses on the impact he hopes to make.
"I'm open to any opportunity where I can inspire more people to live healthier lives and make fitness easier to understand." #CoolVarsity #CoolisinSession
